DEBBIE KRUZEL

FOR SCHOOL BOARD

As a resident of Pelham for 22 years and a Realtor, I know that people often choose towns to live in based on schools and taxes. I’m concerned that since 2019 we have had a 10% drop in our enrollment while the budget has increased over 15% (despite teacher’s salaries staying low).

I have a Master of Science and Teaching at the high school level and I taught for 15 years at MIT. I served a 3-year term as Library Trustee in Pelham, I am a past President of the Greater Salem Rotary Club which I have been a member of since 2013, and I have served on the Board of Directors at the Birches Academy of Arts and Design since 2020.

I am running for School Board because I want the children in Pelham to have the best education possible while being cognizant of the budget. Children are our future and they deserve to be prepared with the highest academic excellence by teachers who are supported to deliver that. Academic excellence prepares kids for life AND also prepares them for a technical career, college education, and more.

In 2022 I started substitute teaching in the Windham Public Schools and have spoken with many teachers about the frustrations in their ability to deliver meaningful education to their students, and how far behind they have fallen due to COVID protocols. I will work with parents, staff, and teachers to understand the frustrations and the successes currently within our school system and how we can improve our schools both academically and socially, using the budget responsibly and efficiently.

I look forward to serving our town and working together with the current School Board! I’d appreciate your support in voting for me, Debbie Kruzel, on the 14th!

FOR SUPERVISOR OF THE CHECKLIST

I am uniquely qualified for Supervisor of the Checklist because although I hold a master’s degree, I began my post-secondary education at Katie Gibbs Secretarial School. My education and experience as a secretary, corporate communications manager, household manager and overseer of my two adult son’s health care and financial affairs uniquely qualify me for this clerical position. I am interested in the integrity of our voter checklist and town elections. I have lived in Pelham for almost 19 years, and I look forward to an opportunity to serve our community.

DAVID SILVA

FOR BUDGET COMMITTEE

My name is David Silva, and I am running for a seat on the Pelham Budget Committee, and I am asking for your support. I am a 19-year resident of Pelham. I was raised in Upstate NY and come from a conservative, no nonsense family. I am not a politician. I am running as a taxpayer that is concerned about excessive spending, and how it affects the everyday citizens of Pelham. In my world there are two things that drives my household, Needs and Wants. Needs are basic everyday expenses that need to be planned for and budgeted. Wants are where we can get into trouble. This is where discretion comes into play. We all have things we want; the question is do we really “need” it and can we afford it. I hope to play a role on the Budget Committee to review needs and more importantly to look out for the taxpayers best intertest on the “wants.”

 FOR BOARD OF SELECTMEN

I am running for a second term as a member of the Board of Selectmen and believe I am a uniquely qualified for this position. I have lived in Pelham the majority of my life, attended school here, and have, locally, managed a small business for twenty years. I am heavily invested in the town’s growth and development, but also want to maintain the true Pelham atmosphere that I have grown up knowing. In my day-to-day job, I have had the pleasure of working directly with members of the community who feel comfortable voicing their concerns or opinions about town issues and topics. This allows me to be a voice for the members of the community and be the liaison between them and the rest of the Board of Selectmen. Being that connection for the public is not something I have seen done before on the Board. It has been truly beneficial for both the citizens of Pelham and the Board of Selectmen. I will continue to provide that service and ensure all folks have a voice at the table. I consider myself fortunate to have served this town as Selectman over the last three years. If you afford me the opportunity to be reelected I will work just as hard serving this community, building on relationships, forging new relationships with the end goal of making the Town of Pelham a better place. Thank you to the members of the Board of Selectmen for their dedication and hard work. At times it has not been easy, but we have pulled together and become a successful team.

FOR PLANNING BOARD

I’d first like to thank the publishers of the Pelham Evergreen for these questions to various candidates and allowing space in your paper for our responses.

I do not consider myself to be any more uniquely qualified than any other resident would be to hold a position on the Pelham Planning Board. I will offer up some of my reasons why I am now a Planning Board member and have chosen to run for one more term.

It is critically important that the zoning regulations and land use regulations Pelham has are maintained and held to the highest possible standards by our planning department. Pelham’s basis for all types of development is based on a common sense principle of lot sizing by soil types. Having no closed waste water system requires a diligence of our Planning Board members to preserve and protect the quality and quantity of our natural resources, with clean ground water being at the top.

Having lived in Pelham for all of my life I might be able to say that I can provide a historical perspective from time to time when new proposals for zoning changes or major developments that could affect the balance of preserving our natural resources come before the Planning Board.

Pelham is a unique community nestled in southern New Hampshire, with limited build out area left. Holding to the highest standards of our zoning and land use regulation has been and will be my commitment to Pelham should my fellow residents place me in this position.
